Quick answer: Spend the day around the historic centre, Liston and the fortifications rather than trying to cross the whole island. Add Vido Island only if the boat schedule and your ship time leave a very comfortable buffer.
A realistic Old Town plan
- Arrive early and wander the narrow centre before crowds build
- Choose one fortress or museum rather than rushing both
- Pause around Liston and Spianada
- Eat somewhere away from the busiest frontage if value matters
- Return by the known bus or taxi route with time to spare
The pleasure of Corfu Town is in its lanes and unexpected views. Leave gaps in the plan so the day still works when a museum takes longer or the temperature slows everybody down.
Should you add Vido Island?
Official tourism information describes Vido as about 1,200 metres from the Old Port, with beaches, food and important Serbian memorial history. Boat schedules are seasonal. Treat it as an optional addition, not a guaranteed final-hour dash before all aboard.
What to wear and carry
Expect sun, uneven surfaces and time on your feet. Carry water, sun protection and a light layer for religious sites. Download your map before leaving the ship and save the port location separately from the city-centre stop.
Our verdict
Corfu rewarded a slower day. It is easy to turn a port call into a frantic checklist, but the Old Town works best when you allow time for the streets, buildings and a proper sit-down pause.
